Summary.

Sheila is exhausted. The CHRO of a mid-sized biotech company, she’s spent the past couple of years running program after program to support the growth and development of hundreds of globally distributed employees. Despite these efforts, she’s facing mounting problems: Retention numbers are dipping, and the representation of underrepresented groups in senior leadership remains stubbornly low.

Elizabeth Weingarten is a journalist, applied behavioral scientist and the Head of Behavioral Science Insights at the people development platform Torch. Prior to this, she was the managing editor of Behavioral Scientist magazine. She has a decade of experience reporting and researching workplace DEI issues, and more recently worked as an applied behavioral scientist at the research firm ideas42. She has published her reporting and research on DEI in The Atlantic, Slate, CNN, Quartz, Financial Times, Fortune, Fast Company, MIT Technology Review, and many others. Elizabeth has her B.S. in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Liz Kofman-Burns , Ph.D., is a sociologist and co-founder of the DEI firm Peoplism. She has over a decade of experience studying and implementing high-impact DEIB solutions. At Peoplism, Liz and her team have partnered with dozens of companies, from the Fortune 500 to start-ups and non-profits, to measurably increase diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in the workplace. Previously, she helped translate research on bias in hiring into software at HR tech start-up Talent Sonar. Her DEI research has appeared in peer-reviewed journals like Psychological Inquiry, Journal of Work & Occupation, and Monthly Labor Review, and publications like Fortune, Inc., TechCrunch, FastCompany, SHRM, and others. Liz has a Ph.D. in sociology from UCLA.
